JCBI: Missouri State Tournament – 5th Place

John Haynes catches us up with the happenings at the 12U AA State Tournamnet last week:

JCBI 12U took 5th place in the 48 team State Tournament held at Joplin June 21-24.  The team won 4 and lost 1 in the single elimination tournament.

JCBI won all 3 pool games, defeating the KC Cyclones 10-2, the North KC Jaguars 13-7, and the Raymore Diamondbacks 14-4.  In bracket play JCBI beat the Dexter Titans 6-2 before losing to the Christian County Cubs 4-0 in the final eight quarter-final.  

In the 10-2 win over the Cyclones Joey Smith pitched a complete game picking up 6 strikeouts and allowing one walk.  Erick Standlee had 3 RBI, Jacob Laughlin had 2 RBI with two hits, Corey Beard, Dan Haynes, Alex Johnson, Smith and Brenden Ogletree each had 1 RBI.   Dylan Brauner, Haynes, Johnson and Ross Shelton each scored twice.

In the 13-7 win over the Jaguars Dylan Brauner got the win  and Corey Beard pitched 2 innings of relief.  Haynes and Standlee each picked up 3 RBI with Ross Shelton and Alex Cuneio each having 1 RBI.  Brauner scored 3 runs, and Sam Atkinson, Beard  and Smith each scored 2 runs.

In the 14-4 win over the Diamondbacks Laughlin pitched the complete game for the win and drove in 7 runs with a 3 run double and a pair of singles.  Haynes and Ogletree each had 2 RBI, with Brauner, Johnson and Shelton each having 1 RBI.

On Saturday JCBI beat the Dexter Titans in bracket play 6-2.   Alex Johnson picked up the complete game win.  Haynes had 3 RBI on two hits and Smith had 2 RBI.  Brauner scored 2 runs, with Atkinson, Beard, Standlee and Ogletree adding runs for JCBI.

In the 4-0 quarterfinal loss to the Christian County Cubs Atkinson was the starter and got the loss with Beard pitching in relief.  Cubs pitching held JCBI to 3 singles  with Atkinson, Laughlin and Haynes picking up hits.  Cubs pitching held JCBI to 4 singles with Atkinson, Laughlin, Ogletree and Haynes picking up hits.
