JCBI: Mid-Mo Wood Bat Extravaganza Results

JCBI 13U Goes 2-2

The JCBI 13U baseball team won two and lost two in the Columbia Wood Bat tournament last weekend. JCBI went 2-1 in pool play but lost 1-0 to the Kingdom Cowboys in bracket play on Sunday.

JC opened with a 3-2 win on Friday over the Kingdom Cowboys. Dan Haynes was the starting pitcher going 5 1/3 with 7 strikeouts and no walks, and Scott Stegeman pitched the last 2 outs for the save. Joseph Limbach, Dylan Brauner and Haynes had 1 RBI each. Jake Laughlin, Sam Atkinson and Erick Standlee scored runs. Klosterman had a double, Haynes had two hits, Alex Johnson, Atkinson, Trevor Rucker and Joey Smith also had hits for JC.

On Saturday JC beat the Mexico Select 3-1 but lost to the Jefferson City Crusaders 4-3.

In the 3-1 win over Mexico Alex Johnson was the starting pitcher going 5 innings with 6 strikeouts, 4 walks and picked off two runners. Klosterman picked up the save with one inning of relief and a pair of strikeouts. Brauner scored 2 runs and Corey Beard stole home in a double steal with Erick Standlee for the other run. Johnson had 2 RBI. Brauner, Haynes, Klosterman and Scott Stegeman had hits for JC.

In the 4-3 loss to the Crusaders Joey Smith was the starter going 4 innings with 3 strikeouts and 3 walks. Joseph Limbach and Klosterman pitched relief with Klosterman taking the loss. Brauner, Atkinson and Johnson scored runs, Klosterman picked up 2 RBI. Atkinson, Beard, Haynes and Klosterman had hits for JC.

In bracket play on Sunday JC lost to the Cowboys 1-0. Brauner pitched the complete game giving up one unearned run with a strikeout and 3 walks. With the bases loaded and no outs in the 4th inning Corey Beard turned a triple play by taking the infield fly, tagging the runner at second and throwing home to Klosterman to tag the runner out. The only hits for JC were Johnson’s double and Haynes had a single.
